MATERIAL INFORMATION RELEASE

In compliance with the terms of article 157, paragraph 4, of Law no 6,404/76 and CVM Resolution nº 358/2002, ARACRUZ CELULOSE S.A. ("ARACRUZ") announces that Votorantim Celulose e Papel S.A. disclosed on this date to the public that the steps towards closing the transaction for the acquisition of ARACRUZ's shares held by Arapar S.A. ("Arapar") are still being implemented and that the closing date of the transaction, previously scheduled to occur on October 6, 2008, has been postponed.

Additional information will certainly be disclosed by means of specific announcement to be released by the parties involved in the said negotiation.
