Lisbon, 31 May 2007 Following yesterdays release, and in light of the news since published in the media, Portugal Telecom informs that within the scope of the ongoing analysis of the strategic options available in the various geographies where it operates, the Board of Directors approved, on 28 May 2007, the re-establishment of contacts with certain Tele Norte Leste Participações (Telemar) shareholders in order to explore investment alternatives. However, Portugal Telecom reiterates that it has not presented any proposal to acquire shares from any shareholder of Telemar.
