Effective July 15, 2004, Walter L. Harris resigned from the Board of Directors
of CNA Financial Corporation. On July 20, 2004 Mr. Harris was elected to the
Board of Directors of Loews Corporation, which owns approximately 91% of the
common stock of CNA.
