UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / November 27, 2024 / Howard L. Nations has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who (MWW) for his work at The Nations Law Firm, which specializes in representing American Veterans and defending their rights.
Mr. Nations enthusiastically goes to work every day in his 59th year of law practice to represent what he calls his "Heroes Docket," comprising his 13,000 clients. His clients consist of thousands of wounded warriors who have been killed or severely injured by terrorist organizations, as well as the Gold Star families of those warriors. Mr. Nations is suing under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act to recover damages for these warriors and their families.
Mr. Nations is also suing 21 prominent foreign banks under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) for allegedly laundering foreign currency into dollars to purchase weapons used by terrorist organizations against the U.S. military.
Included among the clients of Mr. Nations are thousands of firefighters who are struggling with six diseases to which they have been exposed through the use of carcinogenic firefighting foam in their daily training and life-saving work without warnings from the manufacturers about the hazardous chemicals.
Mr. Nations also represents thousands of U.S. Marines and their families who were exposed to carcinogens and other toxins in the water supply at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987. The contaminated water has been linked to 10 serious diseases, causing numerous fatalities and severe health issues among plaintiffs, many of whom are currently battling these illnesses.
In addition to representing plaintiffs for over 58 years in court, Mr. Nations has been highly active for 50 years in Congress and state legislatures, lobbying against tort reform and in favor of just and adequate remedies for plaintiffs. He was one of the attorneys who was instrumental in the passage of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act and is currently lobbying for the passage of three congressional bills to improve recoveries for veterans, wounded warriors and Gold Star families.
After serving in the U.S. Army as a Russian linguist in military intelligence in Korea, Mr. Nations earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Florida State University in 1963 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1966. After five years with a large firm, he founded The Nations Law Firm in 1971 and remains president of the firm today.
Mr. Nations holds bar admissions in Texas, New York and the District of Columbia. He also holds four board certifications from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the National College of Advocacy.
From the inception of The Nations Law Firm, Mr. Nations became a leader in innovation and technology in the courtroom, a leader of the trial bar, a leader in legal education and the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions within the profession.
As a leader in courtroom innovation, Mr. Nations was the first lawyer to introduce computer-generated animation and animated medical graphics into evidence at trial. The case involved the defective design of a roller coaster at AstroWorld that caused severe injury to a rider. As a result of the jury verdict in that case, a new safety standard in design was adopted for the entire industry. This was due to The Nations Law Firm employing a multidisciplinary approach of attorneys, engineers, computer graphics specialists and trial consultants to create a highly technical yet simple case presentation. Mr. Nations also pioneered the use of forensic psychology and neuro-linguistic programming in court. Through another technological innovation, The Nations Law Firm recovered $154 million from British Petroleum.
Mr. Nations co-founded AAJ's National College of Advocacy, the National Trial Lawyers Summit and dozens of individual programs over a 50-year span. He served as an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law for 25 years, teaching trial-related courses and Civil Trial Advocacy. As one of the most sought-after speakers in the legal profession, Mr. Nations is widely published and has lectured to lawyers in all 50 states, six Canadian provinces and 12 foreign countries.
As a leader of the trial bar, Mr. Nations served as president of the National Trial Lawyers, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Melvin Belli Society, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, the Aletheia Institute and the Association of Plaintiff Trucking Lawyers of America.
Mr. Nations' contributions to the profession have been acknowledged by his induction into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame and receiving AAJ's highest accolade, the AAJ Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also inducted into the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America and selected by the Trial Lawyers Roundtable as one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America.
