UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / November 27, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who has honored Sharif Beyah, MS, for leadership in science and technology education. Mr. Beyah is an adjunct professor at Esperanza College of Eastern University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Lincoln University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Beyah's dedication to science, technology education and community advocacy has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top Educators.
Mr. Beyah has excelled as an adjunct professor at the two universities where he teaches such scientific concepts as environmental science, research, anatomy, physiology, and more. He attributes his successful career to how he was raised. His father and grandfather were instrumental in teaching him discipline in his studies when he was young. Though he did not appreciate their lessons as a child, they instilled values he now passes on to his students.
Mr. Beyah was educated in the public school system, where his schools often lacked resources. This disparity was evident when he attended the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to study for a Bachelor of Science in environmental science and renewable energy and a Bachelor of Science in nanobiotechnology and nanofabrication.
Mr. Beyah's collegiate peers had benefited from schools with abundant resources and he had to apply himself rigorously to his studies to excel. He graduated in 2016 and continued his education. He received a Master of Science in medical biotechnology from the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in 2020.
Mr. Beyah knows the need for better representation and education within his community. As an African American in the scientific field, he feels responsible for educating children in his community. Scientific literacy is very low in African American communities and representation in media is lacking.
It is important to Mr. Beyah that children understand that they can achieve successful careers in science and engineering even though they may not have seen anyone who resembles them in those roles.
Mr. Beyah's teaching philosophy is grounded in creating hands-on projects that teach his students the "practical application of science in everyday life." He values teaching his students how scientific principles relate to the world they inhabit. At Esperanza College, he leverages using technology such as the Anatomage table that allows students to take a hands-on approach in learning about the human body, using real bodies that have been digitized. He even leveraged his previous experience teaching aquaponics to elementary students using live models and implemented this at Imhotep Institute Charter High School and his experience as a manager of a 3,000 sq. ft. aquaponics greenhouse. This experience proved invaluable in his work as a hydroponics farm manager at Imhotep Charter High School.
Mr. Beyah was honored with the Educator Award for Outstanding Support during the 2022 STEM Week, where he was recognized for his innovative projects, including a green stormwater infrastructure model, a model he worked with a fellow colleague to improve upon in 2024. Mr. Beyah also provided assistance with 3D printed water filters for improved water quality. "I was the recipient of the STEM Star Award in 2023 from the Imhotep Institute Charter High School. It was given to me during my time at Imhotep, where I was able to assist with various projects and STEM initiatives. By leveraging my experience with hands-on projects during my time at Harrisburg University, I completed projects such as a dye-sensitized solar cell, microbial fuel cell and a Tesla coil."
Mr. Beyah is a believer in life-long learning and is currently pursuing a PhD in integrative and functional nutrition at Saybrook University in Pasadena, California. He has also expanded his credentials with various certifications, which include a certification in human rights consultation from the U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights (USIDHR), a herbalism certification from Now You Know and a hydroponics certification from Alison Analytics. Although he has practical experience in aquaponics and hydroponics, he decided to gain more knowledge in hydroponics to add on during his time at Imhotep Charter High School as a hydroponics farm manager. He is also certified as a ChatGPT expert through the Blockchain Council.
Mr. Beyah recently became a certified juice therapist. He was trained in the science and practice of juice therapy. A juice therapist caters to individual health goals and creates customized plans using fruit and vegetable juices. These wellness goals can include boosting immunity and improving nutrition.
Mr. Beyah's vision for his future is to address real problems in nutrition in his community and worldwide. He aims to create initiatives to provide people with the nutrition they need. His plans also include him continuing to have an impact in academia and making significant contributions to the scientific field.
