Softhread Announces Collaboration with Intel and IBM

Project Showcased Blockchain Deployment in Multi-Site Clinical Trials

BALTIMORE, MD, June 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Today Softhread Inc. announced the results of a successful open-source collaboration with IBM and Intel on a Hyperledger Project to highlight the technical feasibility for Chios™-a blockchain and AI-enabled platform in multi-site clinical trials to address existing security challenges and streamline information sharing. The collaboration showcased the successful prototype of a Hyperledger Fabric Private Chaincode-based platform using Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) to preserve smart contract transaction confidentiality in hybrid cloud deployments, while optimizing security and performance. This project demonstrated the patient-centricity and privacy-preserving capabilities of our platform when deployed within a multi-party, trusted and immutable consenting system.

"This is only the first step in highlighting the broader opportunities in leveraging and deploying the capabilities of our technology solutions that would address major pain points in the healthcare and life-sciences industries, and become the foundation for transforming the healthcare ecosystem. We are extremely pleased to have demonstrated several of the core capabilities of our Chios™ platform during this collaboration, such as pre-built, privacy-preserving smart contracts, advanced access control overlays, support for the publish/subscribe messaging and integration with off-chain, confidentiality-preserving machine learning models," said Dr. Yelena Yesha, Co-Founder, and Chairwoman of Softhread.

"A key challenge faced by life sciences research is data management that preserves integrity and confidentiality while also maintaining regulatory compliance," said Mic Bowman, Senior Principal Engineer at Intel Labs. "Our work together has highlighted the value of deploying a Fabric Private Chaincode-based platform leveraging trusted execution enabled by Intel SGX to address the needs for secure, confidential computing and compliance requirements in clinical trials."

"We are excited to work with the Hyperledger community, particularly, with partners such as Softhread and Intel who understand how important a robust foundation of security, privacy, and resilience is for the future of healthcare and life sciences. We are pleased with the success of this collaboration, which demonstrates the use of Hyperledger Fabric Private Chaincode to serve such sensitive workloads as clinical trial data management." said Dr. Marcus Brandenburger, Research Staff Member at IBM Research and Hyperledger Fabric Private Chaincode Maintainer.
