Roshan Sethi’s '7 Days'- From the Duplass Brothers - Wins Best First Feature at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards

Releasing March 25 in theaters, the film stars Karan Soni, Geraldine Viswanathan, Gita Reddy, Zenobia Shroff, Aparna Nancherla and Mark Duplass

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 7, 2022 / Cinedigm announced today that the romantic comedy 7 Days, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, won big last night at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, CA. Director Roshan Sethi and Producers Liz Cardenas and Mel Eslyn took home Best First Feature at the star-studded event. The film, which stars Karan Soni (Deadpool, Office Christmas Party), who also co-wrote the film, Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers, Bad Education), Gita Reddy (Orange Is The New Black), Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick), Aparna Nancherla (The Great North) and Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), will release in theaters March 25.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards is the premier awards event for the independent film and television community. Each year, the Spirit Awards brings together top talent from throughout the world to recognize the best of film and television.

7 Days was written and directed by Sethi, who began his career of writing as a student at Harvard Medical School and co-created Fox's The Resident while finishing his residency. 7 Days follows Ravi (Soni) and Rita (Viswanathan) who are set up by their traditional Indian parents on a pre-arranged date and seemingly have nothing in common. He's conservative and nervous while she does her best to continue to smile politely. When a shelter-in-place mandate is issued, Ravi is forced to spend the night at Rita's. Soon he sees that she's not the straight-laced girl she pretended to be. As their time stuck together stretches towards a full week, the pair develop an unlikely bond, and in the face of a heartbreaking turn of events, that bond grows into something stronger.

After the film's World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, 7 Days went on to screen at festivals around the world including the Bentonville Film Festival (Best Narrative Feature), San Diego Asian Film Festival (Best Narrative Feature), Naples International Film Festival (Best First Feature), BFI London and the Nashville Film Festival. Sethi, Soni and Viswanathan will next be honored in the New American Perspectives program at the Hawaii International Film Festival. This recognition celebrates immigrant contributions in cinema and the three filmmakers will also present a master class on their collaboration and their work in film and television during this time.

7 Days features an original Bollywood-style song: "Desi Spider-Man," written by Jonathan Camacho, Vamsi Kalakuntla, and Andrew Tinker; Performed by Vamsi, and Produced by Andrew Tinker.

Producers of 7 Days includeLiz Cardenas (2019 Independent Spirit Award nominee for the John Cassavetes Award for Never Goin' Back) and Mel Eslyn (2016 Independent Spirit Awards Winner - Producers Award), with Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Soni, Sethi and Viswanathan acting as Executive Producers, and Maddie Buis as Co-Producer.
