Galiawa Group Beefs Up Drive To Fuel Iraq’s Economic Transformation With Building and Infrastructure Solutions; Expands Portfolio Into Higher Education Sector

By: Get News
The Galiawa Group, one of the biggest groups of companies in Iraq, has heavily invested in the enormous economic potential of the Kurdistan region. It encompasses a portfolio of market-leading businesses focusing on trading and manufacturing of building materials, property development, and construction. The company has also announced its diversification into higher education, with the goal of addressing the "brain drain" in the country.

Galiawa Group, one of the largest companies in Iraq, has stepped up efforts to redefine the business landscape in Iraq with its portfolio that is focused on trading and manufacturing building materials, property development, and construction.

The company, which has been an expert across a broad range of market sectors for over 40 years, provides innovative products and forward-thinking solutions that seek to positively impact the construction industry and the larger community.

In a press interview, Mr. Shwan Muhammed Sulaiman, the company CEO, said Galiawa Group has stood four decades in the industry by ensuring that its customers are always satisfied.

"It's always about applying our core values to all our business transactions and understanding that in order to achieve greatness, we need a winning team," noted Mr. Sulaiman.

At present, Galiawa Group leads the Kurdish market in delivering cutting-edge building solutions, including cement trading. Its team of construction experts offers a range of advanced types of cement to suit every project.

According to Mr. Sulaiman, the sales and distribution of cement has been a cornerstone Galiawa's operations for over 40 years now. The Group began with just ten trucks delivering cement in a small region of Kurdistan in 1983. "Today, we have transportation services from the northernmost point of Iraq all the way to the South," added Mr. Sulaiman.

The Galiawa Group has also carved out a name in the property development sector, having developed high-quality residential, commercial, and industrial projects in partnership with both the public and private sectors. The projects owned by the Galawa Group include Sky Towers, Van Steel, London Towers, and the Galiawa International University.

Sky Towers, for example, is recognized as one of the leading property developers of new urban lifestyles in the Kurdistan region. This impressive architecture serves as a prime opportunity to invest in Erbil's inner-city precinct.

"We have a bold vision to shape the future into something extraordinary. We have built a legacy over four decades for innovative products and building solutions that aim to make life better for many of our young kids in the region," stated Mr. Sulaiman.

Galiawa Group has recently diversified into higher education as part of efforts to bring top-level European higher education and academic standards to Kurdistan. The company established the Galiawa International University (GIU), which aims to inspire and nurture a new academic culture in Erbil and produce dynamic and highly educated young people in the Kurdistan employment market.

"The best students here have left the country in search of European education, where many of whom have found employment abroad. This has created a brain drain in Erbil and affected Kurdistan's economic potential. This is where GIU comes to the rescue. We want knowledge and critical thinking back in Erbil and bring more opportunities for young children, who serve as our hope for the future," noted Mr. Sulaiman.

At present, Galiawa Group, the parent company of GIU, owns a Czech branch campus in Erbil. This project has allowed the Galiawa Group to establish strong relationships with Czech universities and the Czech consulate in Erbil.

The company started out under the name Salahaddin in the 1980s but changed the name to Galiawa in 2001. It has led the way in delivering public and private sector projects and has proven itself to be an expert across a broad range of market sectors for over 40 years.

Over the years, Galiawa has worked with several prestigious clients, including the Government of Iraq (GOI), the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the U.S. government, various UN organizations, and several international non-governmental organizations.
