In 2013, Melissa Ganzi approached Ferreira with an idea to create technology for the sport of polo. The technology would allow umpires to go back in real-time during a match and review plays while also allowing players to challenge calls they felt were unfair. In addition, the two partnered to stream live polo matches to a larger audience.
Ganzi’s innovative business approach and Ferreira’s ability to create exciting content and an attractive platform to consume broadcasts helped them grow the sport from a handful of viewers to hundreds of thousands worldwide. As they expanded to new sports, like skiing, soccer, and FootGolf, they knew they needed to create a new app and home for all this growing content.
With the upcoming 2023 FootGolf World Cup, CTV Sports will face new challenges comparable to those of the Olympics. The event will be covered 24/7, with live coverage exclusively on the CTV Sports app during daytime hours. Replays and exclusive content will be available during nighttime hours. The event is expected to generate thousands of hours of 4K footage and stream nearly a million viewer hours’ worth of content.
