Caribbean Education Foundation Launches New York Premiere of BOB MARLEY: The Making of a Legend Film

By: PRLog
PR Log - Aug 09, 2011 - NEW YORK CITY

The Caribbean Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF) has partnered with Oscar-nominated (A Warm December with Sidney Poitier) and NAACP Award-winning Jamaican Actress and Filmmaker, Esther Anderson and Filmmaker Gian Godoy to bring the critically acclaimed documentary film, BOB MARLEY:  The Making of a Legend to New York!   The film features lost footage of Bob Marley, the King of Reggae, during his early years, before he became famous.  It has been nominated for a UNESCO Award at the Jamaican Film Festival.

The event is a Benefit to fund CEF Paul Bogle Scholarships to help students in financial need to attend public high schools in Jamaica.

The Caribbean Education Foundation VIP Reception & BOB MARLEY:  The Making of a Legend Screening Benefit will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 in New York City.  The Benefit theme is entitled "Achieving Meaningful Independence by Educating our Youth."

The event will be held at the beautiful Tribeca Cinemas in Manhattan, New York.  It commences at 6:30 p.m. with a VIP Reception featuring a Silent Auction, delicious Caribbean Cuisine and Open Bar sponsored by Moët Hennessy USA.  The feature presentation is a Film Screening of the newly released documentary entitled, Bob Marley:  The Making of a Legend.  It will be the first time showing in the state of New York.

The First Lady of Jamaica, Mrs. Lorna Golding will be the Benefit Guest Speaker.  A strong proponent of education, as well as Founder and Chairperson of the Jamaica Early Childhood Development Foundation (JECDF), Mrs. Golding will speak on the importance of an educated Jamaica and Caribbean.  Special Guests include:  New York Assemblyman, Hon. Eric Stevenson of the 79th District, Jamaican Poet and Author, Nadine Williams hailing from Toronto, Canada and newly crowned Miss Jamaica US 2011, Capri Nugent.  The Filmmakers, Esther Anderson and Gian Godoy will be flying in from London to attend and provide question and answers about the film to attendees.  A SPECTACULAR EVENT not to be missed!

The Filmmaker, Esther Anderson was also co-founder of Island Records with Chris Blackwell, managing Bob Marley & the Wailers during the 1970s, propelling the group to stardom.  "Esther Anderson created the blueprint of this film in 1973 as a kaleidoscope portrait of Bob Marley and the Wailers in Jamaica.  Shooting intimate scenes with a prototype Sony video camera, Esther carefully constructs the union between Reggae and Rasta that launches the international career of the Wailers.  Writing songs with Bob Marley and creating the image for the band, Esther's original vision created a radical change of perception and consciousness both musically and socially around the world.  Now, in collaboration with architect and filmmaker Gian Godoy, Esther revisits the making of the legend in modern Jamaica."

The Caribbean Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF) is a registered (501)(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization in the United States.  It operates with a dedicated team comprised entirely of volunteers.  CEF awards student scholarships to brilliant children who are in financial need to enable them to attend public high schools and receive a quality education in the Caribbean.

While the organization works with all levels of education, CEF’s current focus is on poor students who passed their exams to attend high schools in Jamaica.  It costs approximately $1,500 U.S. to send a child to Public High School in Jamaica each year and many working parents are unable to afford it.  The minimum wage in Jamaica is approximately $50 U.S. per week.  CEF awards Paul Bogle Scholarships to high school students.  The Scholarship pays school fees, purchase text books, school supplies, uniforms, meals and transportation.

According to the Founder and President of CEF, Attorney Nikiki Bogle, "the mission of the Caribbean Education Foundation is to provide meaningful access to quality education for underserved children, so they are empowered to help themselves out of poverty and have real opportunities to succeed."

Ms. Bogle also noted, "CEF is extremely excited that Ms. Anderson agreed to do the film screening as a benefit to help poor children receive an education in Jamaica!  We are also honored that the First Lady of Jamaica accepted our invitation to be the Guest Speaker!  It will be a fantastic event.  Funds are very limited for CEF Scholarships, and we are urging concerned individuals, groups, organizations and companies to Adopt a CEF Student, attend, donate or help to sponsor this wonderful benefit."

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Benefit will go directly to fund the Paul Bogle Scholarships for Jamaican students entering Grade 7 in High Schools and renewing awards for current CEF Scholars entering Grade 8 in September 2011.
