Austin Aviation Non-Profit Expands Impact with Generous Support of National & Local Foundations

By: PRLog
PR Log - Jul 04, 2012 - Local educational non-profit organization Phoenix Arising Aviation Academy has received a combined total of $37,000 to advance it’s youth programs to new heights this year. The funds received from three large foundations; KDK-Harman, Glimmer of Hope and the Wolf Aviation Fund - will provide the necessary tools to grow and cultivate summer camps, after-school programs, and weekend workshops.

The goal of Phoenix Arising’s programs is to immerse all students and campers in the real-world applications of science, technology, math, and engineering (STEM) through the rich context of aviation. Through the use of flight simulation, interactive classrooms, stationary flight simulators and a portfolio of engaging math and science activities, students will learn in a dynamic, effective environment. Their youth programs include: after-school enrichment, summer camps and weekend workshops. The three major grants will provide support to each program.

KDK-Harman has awarded a $16,000 grant to fund STEM-in-Flight, Phoenix Arising’s unique summer camps which engage students in math and science through the exploration of aviation. These funds will allow up to 100 underserved children to participate in this dynamic summer camp opportunity at no cost. Funds will be used to offset the cost and materials and provide support for economically disadvantaged students, in grades Kindergarten through High School.

A Glimmer of Hope Austin has provided $20,000 for the new, Take Flight Youth weekend workshop classes. The Take Flight Youth program is part of a specific initiative to recruit and retain economically at-risk students for all of Phoenix Arising’s educational programs. By reaching underprivileged students with engaging educational experiences starting with these weekend workshops and continuing into more advanced programs throughout the year, Phoenix Arising’s programs will have the greatest impact in the Austin community.

The third grant has come from a national aviation foundation, the Wolf Aviation Fund, and will offer $1,000 to support additional equipment and materials that will aid in expanding Phoenix’s programs. The additional equipment and materials will provide more challenging experiences for students while also enabling the organization to reach more students.

“Through the support of generous funders like KDK-Harman, Glimmer of Hope and the Wolf Aviation Fund; our organization has been given the opportunity meet the real needs of underserved students, to open the eyes of every one of our students, to help them dream, to learn to fly and to equip them with a perspective on learning, math and science that  will impact their lives forever” - Zay Collier, Executive Director of Phoenix Arising Aviation Academy
