Remember Oodle? The long-time classified ads site was acquired by TV shopping channel QVC last month. Oodle had a nascent international operation which probably didn’t make sense in the new entity. As a result, bits of it are being hived off, and today we learn that Adzuna, which calls itself a ‘next-generation’ classifieds search engine, has acquired “the traffic” for Oodle UK. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

We say traffic, because now Oodle.co.uk now re-directs to Adzuna, which claims to be pulling in over 1 million visitors a month in the UK and carrying over 2 million live classified listings. Users in other minor categories covered by the old Oodle UK, such as pets and boats, will be forwarded to Mobiya.co.uk, a small classified site which has been going since 2006.

Adzuna effectively aggregates jobs, cars and property ads, then puts a social layer over them, mainly your Facebook network. Last year it raised a round of funding round taking its total funding to £800,000 or $1.3 million. It’s concentrating on the UK but has plans to expand. The founders are formerly of Gumtree, Qype and Zoopla – so a very good track record.

Adzuna’s jobs and housing data is powering the “Number 10 Dashboard” – a real time data app allegedly used daily by the Prime Minister on his iPad.
