Just weeks away, ACEDS Conference will convene top experts, professionals, and solutions providers

By: PRLog
PR Log - Feb 11, 2013 - Miami – The Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists, the global member organization that issued the world's first e-discovery certification, will hold its 3rd Annual E-Discovery Conference & Exhibition from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2 at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, FL. The three-day event will gather a broad swath of talent, and attract a diverse audience of legal and business professionals from the public and private sectors.

The program, conducted in ACEDS’ hallmark interactive style, will probe best practices for technology-assisted review, defensible data management, cloud-based technology solutions, and other pressing e-discovery issues. On one featured panel, Ethical Landmines of “Service Providers Practicing Law” and “Lawyers Practicing E-Discovery,” experts will tell how recent ethics opinions and the phenomenon of “insourcing” has created unease between vendors and law firms.

More than 35 top experts, including Ervin Gonzalez, a lead plaintiff’s attorney on the BP Oil case, and John Barkett, an appointee to the US Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Civil Rules, will present at the conference. The attendees, a global audience of several hundred, will be treated to 16 cutting-edge panels and an intensive pre-conference workshop. They will also benefit from the spectacular surroundings at the Westin Diplomat, where ACEDS will provide 13 first-class networking events, including two beachside receptions, three knowledge breakfasts with top service providers, two luncheons, an attendee appreciation brunch, and refreshment breaks.

"At ACEDS, we believe it is important to provide unique learning opportunities and surround attendees with friends and colleagues who can help them address pressing challenges in their jobs," says ACEDS Executive Vice President Mathew Baum.

“The ACEDS Conference is a venue for e-discovery professionals to advance their careers through knowledge and networking,” he added.

Hallmark style facilitates learning

Conducted in its trademark fashion, the ACEDS format allows the attendees to pose questions directly to the speakers through expert moderators who orchestrate each panel. The experts on the panels will dissect hot-button issues in e-discovery, information governance, law, legal technology and other fields.

One session that has caught the attention of the e-discovery community will explore the transformative powers and accompanying risks of computer-assisted review technologies. That workshop, featuring top speakers from leading organizations and law firms, will be accompanied by another conference panel probing recent cases involving the nascent technology, which is said to cut the time and costs of document review.

For the first time, top service providers, including Driven, GGO, and Kroll Ontrack will provide hands-on demonstrations of their technology-assisted review tools. Consultants will simulate litigation scenarios with sample data sets from the Enron fraud case, giving attendees an authentic feel for how their products work.

In keeping with its philosophy, the ACEDS conference is attentive to the e-discovery needs of both the private and public sectors.

"ACEDS prides itself in presenting a conference that focuses both on the major challenges of the day, and the emerging areas that most of the larger e-discovery community has yet confronted," Baum said.

The ACEDS conference offers up to 17 CLE and CPE credits, and CEDS credits for the growing number of CEDS-certified professionals that must keep up their continuing education.

The conference also serves the needs of "shoppers" who are looking to buy e-discovery software and services. The Exhibition Hall will host more than 50 providers of services and software in the field, including Presenting Sponsor Driven Inc.; Diamond Sponsor DOAR Litigation Consulting; and Platinum Sponsors Hogan Lovells and GGO.

Top corporate counsel, prominent technologists among speakers

In one panel, corporate counsel from two major healthcare providers, will explore best practices for managing, archiving, and defensibly deleting big data. Another panel will feature Judge Richard Nielsen, head of the Florida Bar Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure.

A pre-conference workshop taught by Seattle attorney Helen Bergman Moure, of Lex Aperta, will prepare CEDS candidates for the rigorous Certified E-Discovery Specialist certification examination.
