PR Log - Feb 14, 2013 - AUSTIN – Feb 14, 2013 – Balcones Resources reached another milestone in 2012 by paying out rebates to their customers totaling more than $8,000,000 for the year. These rebates were paid to their customers based on the materials processed by Balcones Resources on their behalf. This dollar amount reflects materials collected from commercial customers in all markets, but does not reflect any material processed through their residential program in Austin, Texas.
“We have a very simple business model. Since we do not own a landfill, we have to make sure every piece of material we receive into our plants is processed back into a reusable stream and not tossed into the trash,” shared Kerry Getter, CEO and founder of Balcones Resources. “We call our customers “stakeholders” because we all have a “stake” in making sure we are doing our best to recycle as much as possible. To reward our customers for doing their part, we offer them a rebate on their materials. In some cases, these rebates total more than their monthly service charges.”
Balcones Resources is the largest recycler in the Southwest not affiliated with a landfill. Their position as a partner to companies and municipalities in the recycling world is what led them to create the rebate program years ago. They recycle all types of materials including paper, cardboard, plastic and metal. And in Texas, pioneered a comprehensive single-stream recycling program. “The rebate program has been a key differentiator between Balcones Resources and its competition since our inception in 1994,” said Adam Vehik, CFO. “The $8,000,000 in rebates we paid to our customers in 2012 was not a record for us, but in an economic period where the market was at its lowest point in years, its nice to know that we have honored our commitment to our customers yet again and paid out high rebates when others were paying nothing.”
The rebate program combined with the platinum service level of Balcones Resources is why more people choose Balcones as their recycling partner. “While not all of our accounts qualify for the rebate program,” said Kerry Getter. “We have customers who do as little as 1 ton per month who get rebates.”
