Online investigators, FATCA experts and 36 others share insights at ACFCS Financial Crime Conference

By: PRLog
PR Log - Mar 11, 2013 - Sandra Stibbards, a leading online investigations expert, whose work for Fortune 500 companies in five continents has amazed many, will speak at the ACFCS Conference, May 16-18 at the Westin Diplomat, Hollywood, FL.

Conference attendees from financial institutions, companies and government agencies will be treated to her acclaimed instruction on the innovative use of online tools to gather vital information to succeed in financial crime investigations.

Stibbards will teach advanced search techniques to mine open source databases, social networks, "deep web" sources, and obscure pockets of data for invaluable, unexpected intelligence and evidence.

All financial crime specialists should have open source skills, Intriago says

“No one who works in financial crime, particularly AML, FATCA and anti-corruption officers, can function effectively without knowing how to exploit open source intelligence. It is a must-have skill,” said Charles A. Intriago, a former federal prosecutor who is president of ACFCS.

The ACFCS 2013 Financial Crime Conference & Exhibition will also bring 37 other experts in 15 panels at the unique learning and networking event. Intriago will be the conference emcee.

An ACFCS webinar Stibbards recently led, “Harnessing Open Source Intelligence to Detect and Prevent Financial Crime,” drew 1,134 persons from 43 countries, who witnessed her instructional prowess and grasp of open source intricacies.

Panels will also focus on FATCA, FCPA, technology and more

The open-source intelligence presentation is just one of 15 panels on which 38 experts will shower vital knowledge on attendees.

“The tremendous knowledge and practical training we’ll provide is unprecedented. No conference has ever presented such a full-spectrum financial crime program," Intriago added.

Conference is vital for AML officers

"For AML officers is a vital conference. Money laundering is a constant element of all financial crimes. They must know how these crimes work, who the players are, and how the money moves," said Intriago, who also formed ACAMS in 2001.

“FCPA is all about corrupt PEPs, who launder and keep their money at banks and other institutions."

"FATCA is all about tax evasion by US persons in non-US banks and the money laundering that goes with it."

"If AML officers don't know these and the other things our conference teaches, they cannot do their AML jobs as fully and skillfully," Intriago added.

"Convergence, the unification wave that’s sweeping financial institutions and government agencies, is what ACFCS and the ACFCS conference are all about," he said.

Conference treats financial crime with non-silo approach

"The time for dealing with financial crime in silos is over. The splintered approach gives financial criminals an advantage. They need to be attacked in a unified way. That's what ACFCS and the ACFCS Conference do," Intriago said.

"AML, FCPA and FATCA enforcement agents, regulators, auditors and lawyers should also not miss this conference,” he added.

The panels at the ACFCS Conference & Exhibition will also focus on the use of technology in financial crime work, dissect the rise of "big data" in financial crime and equip attendees with practical knowledge of how analytic tools can help compliance and enforcement. The panel features J.R. Helmig, a former FinCEN official, now a principal at Lockheed Martin's Information Systems unit.
