Light Bulb World: Energy Saving Measures Could Avoid 22 New Power Stations

By: PRLog
PRLog - Jul 05, 2013 - Research media reports have indicated that adopting everyday energy saving measures could easily avoid the need for 22 new power stations to be built. The news comes against a background of dire warnings from the Government that the UK’s reserve electricity generation capacity is likely to reduce over the next three years. Electricity watchdog OFGEM (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) has also warned that there could be blackouts as fewer households have adopted green measures than had been previously anticipated. In the meantime, specialist retailer Light Bulb World are advising consumers and businesses that the new generation of energy efficient light bulbs can be used almost anywhere you would look to replace a traditional incandescent bulb.

The news comes against a clear call to save electricity both at home and in the workplace. OFGEM is concerned that supply could exceed demand within the next few years and in the meantime there are not enough functioning alternative wind farms to take up the slack left by the closure of old style power stations. There are now substantial subsidies available for companies looking to implement a greener infrastructure to save as much electricity as possible. The schemes offer a way for companies to gain access to greatly reduced energy bills. This could become especially attractive over the coming months and years, with OFGEM concerned that energy prices are only likely to increase as time goes by.

Energy efficient light bulbs can help save electricity and save money in both domestic and industrial settings. Traditional incandescent bulbs used to lose 90% of their power as heat. The new energy efficient light bulbs can save between 25% and 80% electricity use, depending on the type of bulbs installed, to save money on bills. For domestic consumers, the cost savings are easy to calculate. The Energy Saving Trust states that replacing just one halogen downlighter with a new modern equivalent would save £140 by the time you would need to replace the bulb. They recommend having a range of lights connected to separate switches in each room, to allow for better control your lighting use. Fitting specialist bulbs and sensors in areas which are not used much at night-time like hallways can also help. Specialist retailer Light Bulb World gave their advice on the type of modern energy efficient light bulbs now available.

“The age of the bulky, dim and slow start fluorescents has passed. There is now a vast variety of shapes, styles and tones for energy saving bulbs, utilising different technologies including halogen and LED light sources –They can provide soft or bright lighting as required, from various practical and economical fluorescent options suitable for the work place to soft ambient lights for your living room corners.  You can also use them in spotlights, in cupboards; anywhere you need a light source really. The savings really add up and at the same time it’s good to know you’re doing your bit to help the environment, “

The company stocks over 2,000 types of light bulbs for both home and industrial use. To view their full selection of domestic, work place and specialist lighting products, including those incorporating state of the art  energy saving measures, simply visit www.lightbulbworld.co.uk.
