Coming-Of-Age Novella From Debut Author Spans Social Media Networks

By: PRLog
Debut author Susan Pogorzelski is making her mark this summer on the literary world – and the internet -- with Gold in the Days of Summer: A Novella.
PRLog - Jul 22, 2013 - LANCASTER, Pa. -- Susan Pogorzelski is bringing her nostalgic debut book, Gold in the Days of Summer: A Novella, into the 21st century with breakthrough storytelling that spans the social media spectrum. Available in print and digital versions from Brown Beagle Books, the narration continues on the most popular social mediums as readers get an in-depth look into the protagonist’s life leading up to the book’s 1979 events.

Personal connections is a theme that lies at the heart of Gold in the Days of Summer, in which Annie Summer struggles to redefine her relationships in the days leading up to her 13th birthday. Her grandmother, now in a nursing home, isn’t the woman she remembers; her best friend, blossoming socially, seems to be leaving her behind; and her once-reclusive neighbor becomes a surprising confidant among the changes.

“I started telling Annie’s story on Twitter as a way to understand her story and character,” Pogorzelski says of the narrative that is loosely based on her own childhood, “but it has since become a way to bridge the gap between the past and this social and technology-driven world we live in.” Snippets of the character’s life are shared on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram, providing the reading community with additional details and direct interaction with the young protagonist.

With funding completed via a successful Kickstarter campaign, Pogorzelski has further emphasized her belief in community and social media. The Gold in the Days of Summer website includes new short stories featuring those who pledged to the Kickstarter campaign at higher levels as well as a compilation of Annie’s social networks. A free prequel is expected in October.

Susan Pogorzelski is the founder and owner of Brown Beagle Books, a publishing imprint and writing and self-publishing development company.
