AKHAN Tech Selected To Present At the ‘Academy Awards Of Cleantech’ Next Month In Silicon Valley

By: PRLog
PRLog - Oct. 22, 2013 - CHICAGO -- AKHAN Technologies, Inc., the global leader in diamond semiconductor technology, today announced its selection as a Midwest Regional Finalist for the 2013 CleanTech Open Accelerator competition. Judging AKHAN’s product solution-- the Miraj Diamond™ platform-- as well as the accompanying business model, an expert panel of judges selected 3 regional winners from an accelerator class of 21 cleantech entrepreneurs. “We are ecstatic and honored to be selected,” said Adam Khan, Founder and CEO of AKHAN Technologies. “The ‘clean tech’ aspects of Miraj have been a major highlight and focus for us, and to be recognized for that is encouraging.”

The finalists were announced Thursday night at the conclusion of the 4th Annual Midwest Innovation Summit event in Minneapolis, which convened over 75 regional innovators including the 2013 accelerator class of start-ups with investors and corporate managers, media, civic leaders and many other influencers from throughout the Midwestern business community.

Each regional finalist won a prize package with a mix of investment and in-kind services worth up to $20,000. The three finalist companies and sustainability winner will present at the Global Forum, the Academy Awards of Cleantech on November 19-21, 2013 in California to compete for a grand prize of $200,000 in investment and services. All 21 Midwest businesses that completed the five-month accelerator program will be invited to participate at the Global Forum as exhibitors and meet investors from across the nation.

“This year’s Midwest Accelerator featured one of our strongest classes yet,” said Justin Kaster, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Midwest division of Cleantech Open. “The experts that joined us in Minneapolis the past couple days, including many investors, were impressed. The companies that were selected for the awards are diverse geographically and are focused on different markets. It is a great display of how the cleantech approach to doing business is penetrating a variety of industries.”

About the Miraj Diamond™ Platform

The Miraj Diamond™ Platform consists of the combination of two newly developed diamond technologies — low-temperature nanocrystalline diamond deposition technology developed at Argonne’s Center for Nanoscale Materials, and an efficient n-type semiconductor doping process developed by AKHAN Technologies. The combination of these breakthroughs allows for a commercially feasible approach to creating cheaper better devices that rely on integrated circuits, which could transform telecommunications, defense and aviation electronics.

Funding for the initial development of the Miraj Diamond™ platform was provided by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. For more information about the licensing agreement of the Miraj Diamond™ technology between Argonne and AKHAN Technologies, click here
