Local Golf Teaching Professional Earns Bid to PGA Championship

By: PRLog
PRLog - July 6, 2015 - PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- Local PGA Teaching Professional at Fox Hills Learning Center in Plymouth, Brian Cairns, Michigan just earned his third ticket to the PGA Championship within the last five years.

In 2011, Cairns earned his first trip to the championship in Hershey, Pennsylvania at the Hershey Country Club. This past June at the Philadelphia Country Club, Cairns claimed his third ticket to the PGA Championship in the last five starts. Saving his best for last, Brian shot a 3-under 67 in the final round of the National Championship which tied the low mark for the week and put him in a tie for eighth place.

"It was fun. It was a lot of fun out there today," Cairns said. "All week I hadn't capitalized on any of my great shots, but that changed today. Today, I missed just one fairway. I also made a lot of putts. I made probably 10, 5-6-foot par putts. That will make you a lot calmer. It's one of those days where you can really see it, or you can't. It was great. I have no regrets."

“Then, in a 10-hole stretch beginning on No. 3, Cairns had five birdies and one bogey. He capped off the round with a nifty up and down from just off the front of the 18th green” - PGA.com.

"On 18, I was dead calm," said the 51-year-old Cairns. "I knew short of the green was fine. Just make pars. The last round was all about calmness and patience. I was calm enough and hitting the ball straight enough. Not long, but straight enough, which is really key out here. As long as you make a couple of putts, you can shoot in the 60s. It's a good golf course."
