[Reuters] – An experimental, long-acting opioid painkiller from Pfizer Inc showed potential to deter abuse but can be manipulated, according to a preliminary review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The abuse deterrence mechanism relies on incorporation of naltrexone into the drug product pellets. The drug is designed such that if the pellets are crushed in an attempt to abuse the painkiller, naltrexone is released to counteract the effects of oxycodone. Read more on this. Pfizer Inc. (PFE) , with a current market cap of $211.64B, started the session at $34.70. Looking at today’s trading action, the company’s one day range from $34.62 to $34.99 with a one year range of $28.25 to $36.46. PFE shares are currently priced at 14.22x this year’s forecasted earnings, which makes them relatively expensive compared to the industry’s -0.21x earnings multiple. The company pays shareholders $1.20 per share in dividend income per year, for a current yield of 3.46%. Consensus earnings for the current quarter by the 15 sell-side analysts covering the stock is an estimate of $0.62 per share, which would be $0.06 better than the year-ago quarter and a $0.03 sequential increase. What we find to be interesting is that the full-year EPS estimate of $2.44 is a $0.24 better when compared to the previous year’s annual results.
