University of Texas System, UT SELECT Medical Health Plan Chooses Health Enhancement Systems as their Wellness Challenge Partner

By: PRLog
Health Enhancement Systems has been selected to administer a custom activity challenge platform open to University of Texas System's UT SELECT medical plan members: employees, retirees and dependents (~130,000 members).
MIDLAND, Mich. - July 12, 2016 - PRLog -- Health Enhancement Systems, world leader in workplace wellness campaigns, has been named activity challenge partner for the University of Texas System, UT SELECT medical plan members for its Health & Wellness program Living Well: Make It a Priority.

"We're thrilled to be working with the University of Texas System," notes Dean Witherspoon, CEO and founder of Health Enhancement Systems. "They're committed to helping their people adopt sustainable lifestyle changes — and that's what we're all about."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov), only 50% of US adults meet minimum physical activity recommendations — 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise a week. Nearly 1 in 4 get no leisure-time physical activity. "Lasting health behavior change isn't easy," confirms Witherspoon. "Our wellness campaigns integrate the latest in health science and behavior change research with fun themes, easy tracking, and appealing features that delight and inspire participants. This sets the stage for intrinsic motivation — the only kind that leads to sustainable results."

Slated to launch this fall, the University of Texas System's new activity challenge campaigns stand to enhance health and well-being of its members across the state and those working or living all over the world. The System includes 8 academic institutions in Arlington, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Odessa (Permian Basin), the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tyler; and 8 health or medical institutions in Austin, Dallas, Galveston, Harlingen, Houston (2), San Antonio and Tyler.

The System has 88,000 benefit-eligible employees and 20,300 benefit-eligible retirees who will soon have access to Health Enhancement Systems award-winning wellness campaigns.

Regular exercise — as simple as a brisk, 30-minute walk, 5 times a week — is known to reduce disease risks and optimize well-being at any age. This healthy behavior is a vital part of a growing healthcare movement called lifestyle medicine. It "involves the therapeutic use of lifestyle, such as a predominately whole food, plant-based diet, exercise, stress management, tobacco and alcohol cessation, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and, more importantly, reverse the lifestyle-related, chronic disease that's all too prevalent," states the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (lifestylemedicine.org). Health Enhancement Systems is ready to support the System in all these health/well-being areas and more, based on institution priorities.

"University of Texas System, Office of Employee Benefits and its Living Well program are committed to helping our members; employees, retirees, and their dependents to reach their potential and maintain the productivity necessary to meet the challenges of work and life. By providing a variety of programs, tools and resources, our goal is to enable employees, retirees and dependents to take charge of their health and develop their own personal wellness program utilizing all University of Texas System Institution's programs and services," emphasizes Rolando Roman, Manager of Wellness Programs for the System. "Health Enhancement Systems is the clear leader among wellness campaign vendors, and we are looking forward to teaming up with them to make this happen."
