Tom Manning Discusses Rise of China and its Business Implications in NACD Forum

By: PRLog
Business leaders take on the boardroom's biggest issues as the largest director forum in the world convenes in Washington
CHICAGO - Sept. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- Tom Manning, independent director of Dun & Bradstreet and former CEO of Cerberus Asia, Capgemini Asia, and Ernst & Young Global Consulting Asia, and Partner at Bain & Company, will join other leading corporate directors in Washington, D.C. to present a keynote address on the rise of innovation in China and the implications for companies competing inside China and with Chinese firms going global outside China.

Manning will lead the keynote in a late morning session at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, titled "Convergence Lab: Global/Competition." During the address, Manning will share his insights from the years he has spent working with some of the world's largest companies. "Chinese companies today are going global," said Manning. "This is raising the intensity of competition in nearly every industry, worldwide – and as a result, multinational companies and their government affiliates will have to take more concerted action to stay competitive."

The 2016 Global Board Leaders Summit's theme this year is "Beyond Borders Convergence," and will cover how disruptive trends and innovation are demanding the attention of corporate boards around the world. The largest director forum in the world, NACD's Summit brings together the world's foremost thought leaders to take on some of the most troublesome issues facing today's corporate boardrooms. During the Global/Competition session, Manning and other corporate leaders will discuss, in addition to the rise of China and its focus on innovative excellence, other emerging markets, and the business implications of these key geopolitical megatrends.

A prolific author and speaker, Tom Manning is one of the world's leading experts on China's increasingly powerful position on the global stage. In his most recent article in Chief Executive Magazine, titled "5 Key Questions That Should Define Your China Strategy," he discusses China's economic and political objectives, noting that China's global role is shifting from one of factory, to laboratory, with a surge in original patent applications. In a related article in the same journal, titled "The Yawning Skills Gap on American Boards," Manning also pointed out the growing need to place internationally-experienced directors on American boards. He was also quoted in a recent World Policy Journal blog post, noting that China has made strategic pivots towards game-changing original innovation, government focus on cultivating industry and the country's talent base, and China's leadership in STEM education. A prolific author, Manning has also recently been featured in Industry Week in his article, "China Technology Innovation Comes of Age." He was also the subject of an in-depth interview with Global Finance magazine, where the editors interviewed him on the nation's quiet innovation revolution.

The forum will be held from September 17 through September 20 at the Marriott Marquis, in Washington, D.C.
