Apereo Foundation Announces the Release of EQUELLA 6.5

By: PRLog
New version is first to be developed as open source with usability at the core
PRINCETON, N.J. - Dec. 5, 2017 - PRLog -- The Apereo Foundation today announced the upcoming release of EQUELLA 6.5, the first open source version of the award-winning digital repository.  EQUELLA, a digital repository for housing teaching/learning, research, media, and library content in one platform is currently in use in a wide range of schools, universities, colleges, TAFEs, departments of education, government agencies, and corporations worldwide.

EQUELLA 6.5 is the first version of the platform to focus entirely on client-requested features, with usability at the core. Following the recent contribution of EQUELLA as open source software, this version demonstrates the new development paradigm made possible through open source. Third-party solutions provider Edalex Solutions developed the release, complemented by platform testing support from Unicon and the extensive EQUELLA community.

"Consistent with the recent announcement about EQUELLA's transition to open source, this version demonstrates what's possible when the community has greater input into a project's roadmap," Ian Dolphin, Executive Director of the Apereo Foundation, said.

As an open source platform, EQUELLA's enterprise scale content discovery, management and sharing is now universally available, for a wider range of applications. EQUELLA 6.5 enhances key functionality that enables the platform to be used extensively across the globe:
   •    User experience (UX) improvements
   •    Drag & drop functionality streamlining the content contribution process
   •    Extensive workflow enhancements, including:

   ◦    UI enhancements
   ◦    Notification controls
   ◦    File attachment
   ◦    Task management
   ◦    Scripting

Version 6.5 is available now. For more information about implementing or upgrading to EQUELLA 6.5, please navigate to https://equella.github.io/ or contact a services provider in your region, including Edalex Solutions (Asia Pacific), Unicon (North America), and Next Education Services (EMEA).
