BARCELONA, Spain - Feb. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- MWC 2018 -- One of the world's largest economies, Brazil is finally pulling out of a recession that has beset the country since 2014. The recovery is being felt in the telecommunications sector, driving competition and expanding broadband coverage.
To that end, Oi – the largest telecommunications company in Brazil – is extending its partnership with Technicolor to explore how fiber networking and new Wi-Fi management services can meet surging consumer demands.
According to Evandro Bender, Manager, Technology and Network Architecture for Oi, the company's national network backbone is run over high capacity fiber. Currently Oi utilizes Gigabit Passive Optical networking (GPON), Very High Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL2), and G.Fast technologies to boost performance between the fiber network subscribers' homes.
Bender says that Oi is exploring other technologies such as 10 Gigabit PON (10G-PON) and mobile LTE networks to increase broadband access throughout Brazil.
In partnering with Technicolor, Oi benefits from Technicolor's industry knowledge, experience and their current GPON-enabled gateways that take advantage of the latest developments in Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) technology.
Additionally, the number of Wi-Fi networks have increased across Brazil. Oi and Technicolor are focused on ensuring that the Wi-Fi experience is of the highest quality for subscribers.
Bender says that Oi is evaluating solutions that help the company better understand what is happening in the home in order to better manage relationships between Wi-Fi networks, access points and the increasing number of devices in Brazilian homes.
