Sila Nanotechnologies, QuantumScape and other battery start-ups are raising millions of dollars from venture capitalists and corporations such as Volkswagen to commercialize their breakthrough technologies. They believe their batteries are big improvements over the current lithium-ion batteries used by Tesla.
