Critically acclaimed Seattle band Chimestone announced today the release of their self-titled CD, recorded in honor of founding member Ryan Schuehle, who passed in August 2016. The CD, “Chimestone” will be available in all digital and streaming formats, including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music and many others. The CD is also available for purchase via CD Baby and local Seattle music outlets.
“This is an emotional and exciting time for the band, as we have worked on these songs for many months, songs we had originally written with Ryan,” said Jake Gordon, Chimestone singer and guitarist. “The time felt right, and this whole project has been done in his memory and sharing these songs with the world is something very special to us.”
Recording at a historic Seattle studio
The band worked with long-time collaborator and producer Jonathan Plum, who acted as multi-instrumentalist and co-producer on the project. Pre-production lasted several months, as Plum worked with band members Gordon, bassist Ted Schuehle, and drummer Paul Michaels in preparation for the studio. That studio was the legendary London Bridge Studio in Seattle, where Plum is co-owner.
“To be recording in the same room where Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains – so many Seattle legends have been, was amazing. But also, Ryan recorded his solo record here, which made it that much more important for us to be here.” said Michaels.
Chimestone has been recognized for powerful and emotional vocals coupled with melodic, driving, and hook-laden musicianship – equal parts pop and rock. Radio friendly while being true to their independent roots, the new release “Chimestone” consists of all original material, with one specially selected cover song – “We Walk the Same Line”, featuring the co-lead vocals of Kim Virant (Lazy Susan), the band offers their unique spin on a timeless song, originally recorded by Everything But The Girl.
Formed in early 1991 by Jake Gordon (vocals), brothers Ryan Schuehle (guitars) and Ted Schuehle (bass), and Paul Michaels (drums), the band first gained local attention in the Seattle live music scene due to their high energy performances. Their debut release “Just For Grins” was the first independent release recorded at Seattle’s legendary Bad Animals studio to sell more than 8,000 copies without promotion from a major label. Marco Collins (The Glamour & The Squalor), then a DJ at Seattle’s KNDD (107.7 FM), also known as “107.7 The End”, was one of the first to play Chimestone’s music. The single “Stolen View” was then featured on KNDD’s Sunday evening radio show “The Young and The Restless” and received immediate attention, thus getting into rotation on the station. Not long after, they were chosen by The Seattle Times as one of the city’s most promising and talented new musical acts.
Chimestone continues to play live in the Seattle area, primarily focused on fundraising shows such as Strong Against Cancer and The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
