California-based indie-artist Arrica Rose & the …’s latest release, Technicolour Blue, is a cinematically dreamy 6-song EP that captured the #1 slot on NACC Chill Chart for the last 3 weeks in a row, in addition to spending its first 4 weeks on the NACC Overall Top 200. Arrica Rose releases music independently via her own label, pOprOck records, so it’s a true DIY success story. “At times it’s difficult to wear different hats and run my own label, even more challenging these days,” says Rose. “But it also affords me the autonomy to make the music I want to make.”
The songs on Technicolour Blue flow from retro-tinged pop to Americana balladry to vintage rock ‘n’ roll and are hard to pigeonhole in terms of genre; but they’re all cohesively dressed up in ethereal soundscapes and sultry vocals, which in and of itself has become Rose’s signature style. This latest EP is comprised of 5 originals as well as a cover that’s a mash-up of “Over the Rainbow“, “For What it’s Worth“, and “Ohio” into a powerful reimagined protest song. Rose coined the name the …’s (say dot dot dots) to describe the collaborative nature of her project and the contribution of a variety of esteemed musicians.
Arrica Rose isn’t a brand new artist or an overnight success story but she’s been continually releasing an impressive body of work, working hard at her DIY label, and seeing results. Along with landing on the NACC charts, her music has garnered praise from iTunes, LA Weekly, LA Record and many more. It landed on several ‘Best of Lists’ and Consequence of Sound described her track “Nothing Nada Nothing” as one of the best indie-rock tracks of the year. Her cover of the Bee Gee’s “Tragedy” was featured by Esquire.com as one of “the best covers of all time”. Arrica Rose & the …’s music has also been featured on MTV’s Real World, MTV’s Road Rules, The CW’s Nikita, NBC’s Lipstick Jungle, NikeWomen.com, and the upcoming indie-film Lorelei.
