Pittsburgh becomes 10th University to join the DMAX movement
“The entire pandemic is a time of trauma,” Kayla Koch, University of Pittsburgh.
DMAX Foundation welcomes its newest club – the DMAX Club at University of Pittsburgh. The new DMAX Club has been established by Kayla Koch, a senior at the university.
Kayla said students were already struggling with the transition that college life brings, but the pandemic has made everything harder.
“The entire pandemic is a time of trauma. We are all living through trauma and expected to produce and exist as if we are not.”
By establishing a DMAX Club at the university, Kayla is working to create a space for students to talk openly and honestly about their own mental health and anything on students’ minds…so they can connect and help each other.
“Our goal is to come into these meetings and say, ‘This is normal. Voice your struggles. Tell us what’s going on. Maybe we’re going to be able to help. Maybe it’s just somewhere to vent. Maybe this is just, you know, that stress relief you need at the end of the week.” (PublicSource.org)
ABOUT DMAX CLUBS: DMAX Clubs are student-led, mental health-related social clubs on college campuses that create an environment for students to get together and talk about how they are doing, how their friends are doing and how they can help each other. “DMAX Clubs… are doing amazing things that help young adults like myself grow and heal.” Caitlin Allen, student leader at Penn State University.
“We are thrilled to see our tenth DMAX Club established by students who really understand the benefits of sharing their worries and anxieties in a supportive peer-to-peer environment. We want to congratulate Kayla in establishing the University of Pittsburgh DMAX Club and to offer its new DMAX Club members our best wishes and support.” Laurie Burstein-Maxwell, DMAX Executive Director.
