Civil Air Patrol to hold REIGNITE celebration in Livermore this Saturday

Livermore, California Jul 17, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - At 9:00 AM, Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Livermore Airport Terminal in Livermore, CA, San Francisco Bay Group 2 of Civil Air Patrol will hold a REIGNITE celebration. This celebration is intended to honor the resiliency of our members and families over the past year, to welcome our returning to in-person training and activities, and to display to our members and visitors to different aspects of CAP to "reignite" the passion for our three missions: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services.

Civil Air Patrol had been meeting virtually since early March 2020 using various virtual software like Microsoft Teams and Zoom and only started to meet in person last month.

Up to 150 cadets, adult members, and parents will be attending this celebration. The attendees represent our 10 Squadrons in the areas and cities in the Tri-Valley, Concord, San Francisco, Oakland, Hayward, Palo Alto, San Carlos, San Jose, and Watsonville and reside in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Activities for the day are centered around "Food and Fun". These will include orientation flights in CAP aircraft, Aerospace Education activities, fun quizzes, and demonstrations; a color guard demonstration followed by training and a friendly drill down competition; and a practice beacon hunt competition. Morning activities will be repeated in the afternoon so that members and guests can participate in all activities.

The logo was designed with inspiration provided by the Cadets that comprise our Cadet Advisory Council (CAC) - a group of young adults that advise and recommend changes to the Group Commander on cadet-related matters. The phoenix represents rebirth and renewal, the colors represent the fire of hardship and adversity our members endured over the last year while ensuring the continuation of operations, and "Reignite" has dual significance; the phoenix symbolically rises from the ashes, but this activity also exists to reinvigorate our members.

About Civil Air Patrol

Established in 1941, Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 single-engine Cessna aircraft and more than 2,000 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and performs about 90% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Often using innovative cellphone forensics and radar analysis software, CAP was credited by the AFRCC with saving 130 lives in fiscal 2020. CAP's 54,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief, and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state, and local agencies. As a nonprofit organization, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace education using national academic standards-based STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. Members also serve as mentors to over 20,000 young people participating in CAP's Cadet Programs. One of the premier public service organizations in America, CAP benefits the nation with an estimated economic impact of $209 million annually.
