By: Get News

The 2023 BRICS Multilateralism Industry Cooperation Summit Forum was successfully held at the Great Hall of the People of Zhejiang Province from April 21st to 22nd. The chairman of the National Assembly of South Africa, the leader of the 2023 BRICS Summit and the chairman of the South Africa Investment and Trade International Expo, Cedric Frolik, attended the conference and delivered a speech.

In order to build high-quality partnerships and create a new era of global development, the Organizing Committee of the 2023 BRICS Leaders' Summit and the South Africa Investment and Trade International Expo awarded the title of "2023 Leading Figure in Economic Development of the BRICS Countries" to Lingyun Xiang, an economist in the United States.

The theme of this forum was "Upholding the Global Multilateral Trade Order and Promoting the Coordinated Development of the World Economy." Cedric Frolick, the president of the Parliament of South Africa, attended the forum as a key guest and discussed economic development and cooperation issues of the BRICS countries with other attendees, injecting momentum into the BRICS cooperation. The summit forum included nine major themes, including the New Energy and Technology Industry with International Multilateralism Cooperation Industry Leaders Summit, the Health and Medical Industry with Industry Leaders Summit, and the Consumer Electronics and Communication Technology Industry with Industry Leaders Summit. Participants and business representatives provided valuable insights and empowered enterprises to overcome development bottlenecks, seek multilateral cooperation, expand export channels, and improve the quality of international trade.

This year, the BRICS leaders will hold their 15th summit, and the Republic of South Africa will assume the rotating presidency of the BRICS. Leaders from all BRICS countries will gather in the Republic of South Africa to discuss the plan for peace and development. As representatives of emerging markets and developing countries, the BRICS countries have made the right choices and taken responsible actions at a critical juncture in historical development. This is of vital importance to the world in the current context of international uncertainty. The BRICS countries should strengthen their unity, promote the spirit of BRICS, consolidate strategic partnerships, jointly tackle various challenges, elevate BRICS cooperation to a new level, and play a greater role in international affairs.

The Republic of South Africa is the second largest economy in Africa and is one of the world's top five mineral-rich countries. Its mining technology, including deep-level mining, is among the world's leading positions. South Africa's economy belongs to the most advanced and industrialized category in Africa and also has an important position in mineral resources. South Africa is the rotating presidency of the BRICS countries in 2023 and is the only BRICS member country in Africa. China is not only a staunch supporter and participant of the BRICS mechanism, but also the largest economy among the BRICS countries. Under the framework of BRICS and South-South cooperation, the bilateral relationship between China and South Africa has always been firm. The current China-South Africa relationship has already exceeded the scope of bilateral relations, becoming a model for China-Africa relations and cooperation among emerging market countries, with significant strategic significance and global influence. South Africa currently has huge potential in its characteristic industries, and the prospect of the industrial internet is promising. It can learn from China's new model of industrial internet platforms, open up a new situation of high-quality development of South Africa's characteristic industry chain, and create a new benchmark for a digital economy in BRICS countries.

The event is organized by the Organizing Committee of the 2023 BRICS Leaders' Summit and the South Africa Investment and Trade International Expo, as well as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. It aims to prepare and discuss the upcoming 15th BRICS Leaders' Summit and South Africa Investment and Trade International Expo, which will be held in August this year, and provide strategies and plans to support the high-quality development of the South African economy.
