Lieutenant Justin Lewis of the Sanger Police Department was Honored as 2023 Officer of the Year

DENTON, Texas - Feb. 29, 2024 - PRLog -- The American Legion Post 268 proudly announced Lieutenant Justin Lewis of the Sanger Police Department as the 2023 Officer of the Year. The prestigious award was presented to Lieutenant Lewis on January 2, 2024, in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service to the community.

Lieutenant Lewis demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment during a challenging period for the Sanger Police Department. Following the departure of the former Chief of Police and the retirement of the Assistant Chief, Lieutenant Lewis took the helm, providing stability and guidance to the department during the transitional phase. His unwavering commitment to duty and his ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism was instrumental in ensuring the continued safety and security of the Sanger community.  Visit https://sangertexas.org

In a ceremony held on February 28, 2024, Melanie Marx, District Director for Texas House Representative Jared Patterson, presented Lieutenant Lewis with a resolution on behalf of the Texas House, congratulating him on his exemplary service throughout the year 2023. The resolution commended Lieutenant Lewis for his leadership, dedication, and resilience during a time of significant change within the Sanger Police Department.

Lieutenant Justin Lewis expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It is truly an honor to be named Officer of the Year by the American Legion Post 268 and to receive this resolution from the Texas House. I am proud to serve the Sanger community and am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the safety and well-being of our residents."

The Sanger Police Department also commended Lieutenant Lewis for his outstanding achievements and leadership qualities. Chief Tyson Cheek, who joined the department in June 2024 as the interim police chief and subsequently was named acting Chief, acknowledged Lieutenant Lewis's pivotal role in maintaining the department's operations and ensuring a smooth transition.

The American Legion Post 268, along with the Texas House Representative Jared Patterson and the Sanger Police Department, congratulates Lieutenant Justin Lewis on this well-deserved recognition and extends appreciation for his exceptional service to the community.
