University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies Scholars Present at 2024 International Association for Educational Communication and Technology Convention

Researchers from Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research and Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Research present studies’ findings at the event

Researchers from University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR) present multiple research studies at the 2024 Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention. At its virtual event held October 1-3 and in-person event held October 19-23 in Kansas City, MO, marking its next 100 years as an organization, AECT brings together educational practitioners and researchers for the exchange and dissemination of instructional design scholarship and practice.

The research labs at CEITR focus on cutting edge topics in education and put researchers in the center of an effective ecosystem of experts, resources, and tools. The transformation of educational technology over the past few years has brought CEITR focus areas of education communications, access and learning discussions to the foreground.

“The AECT conference provides an enriching environment for our scholars to share their findings in a community that enlivens and amplifies the discussion and potential for leveraging findings to instigate change and improvements to instruction technology,” shares Mansureh Kebritchi, Ph.D., chair of CEITR. “University of Phoenix has dedicated scholars researching collaboratively to better understand and improve online learners’ experiences and this is an important opportunity for them to disseminate their contributions.”

Paris Love, Ph.D., TaMika Fuller, DBA, Belky Perez, PsyD, LMHC, and Stella Smith, Ph.D., associate research chair of CEITR, have been honored with selection for A Presidential Session during the Technology Boundaries and Influence segment in a discussion titled, “Drawing the Line: Keeping Colorism Out of the Classrooms,” on Thursday, October 3, 11:50am-12:20pm CDT.

The 2024 AECT event features 39 CEITR scholars in 10 presentations, including:

  • “Creativity, productivity, and large language models: Co-creation of doctoral research questions,” led by Kebritchi;
  • “Exploring educational implications and strategies of using ChatGPT in online course,” led by Kebritchi, Smith and others;
  • “Retaining Online Non-Traditional Students,” by Louise Underdahl, Ph.D., Danielle Kish, Ed.D., Pamayla Darbyshire, DHA, RN;
  • “Exploring Perceived Equitable Access to AI by Online Higher Education Students,” by Robert King, Ed.S., James Traylor, DBA, Myrene Magabo, D.Comm., and others;
  • “Empowering Educators to Strengthen Student Learning in a Virtual Learning Environment,” by Patricia Akojie, Ph.D., Marlene Blake, Ph.D., and others.

AECT is an international professional association of instructional designers, educators and professionals, and at this annual event encourages researchers and practitioners in the field to share their scholarship, practice, and stories related to the use of technology and the creation of inclusive, equitable, and ethical learning environments, including examples of technoethics or restorative justice in practical contexts.
