Molina Healthcare of Illinois Awards $250,000 Grant to Ada S. McKinley Community Mental Health Clinic on Chicago’s South Side

Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), awarded a $250,000 grant to Ada S. McKinley Community Services in support of the Ada S. McKinley Community Mental Health Clinic. The clinic is a division of Insight Hospital and Molina funds will help boost comprehensive mental health care through the hiring of Community Based Clinicians (CBCs) who will provide outpatient therapy to Medicaid members.

"Molina Healthcare is committed to bridging gaps in behavioral health, particularly in historically underserved regions such as Chicago’s South Side," stated Matt Wolf, president of Molina Healthcare of Illinois. "Providing funds for Community Based Clinics (CBCs) will enhance care accessibility for individuals and families, ensuring that patients obtain the necessary follow-up treatment."

Mental health clinics and providers are particularly needed in Cook County, where there are only 111 psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and mental health providers per 100,000 residents. In Chicago’s South Side, where poverty rates are disproportionately high, residents ranked mental health as a top concern for both children and adults with exacerbating factors including loneliness, isolation, and crime.

“Thanks to dedicated partners like Molina Healthcare, we can expand access to mental health resources for residents of Chicago’s South Side to meet the needs of our community,” said Jamal Malone, CEO of Ada S. McKinley Community Services. “Illinoisians deserve quality, comprehensive care, and training CBCs to complement the critical work being done at the Ada S. McKinley Community Mental Health Clinic represents a significant step in the right direction.”

CBCs will focus on following up with patients recently discharged from an inpatient mental health stay. The clinic will serve up to 250 individuals, couples, and families a week and offers 20 private counseling suites staffed by therapists, case managers, and crisis workers.
