The Race For Oklahoma State Senate District 33 Heats Up With Debate

The race for the Oklahoma state senate district 33 heats up with a debate on May 13th. District 33 represents Broken Arrow, the third-largest city in Oklahoma. Learn more about one of the candidates Christi Gillespie at www.ChristiForSenate.com.

Oklahomans will not have to wait until November to learn about the candidates running for State Senate District 33. District 33 represents Broken Arrow, the third-largest city in Oklahoma and largely regarded as one of the most desirable places to live. There will be an open forum debate this May to learn more about the candidates and see which one aligns with citizens' values. On May 13th, this event will be held at the Water's Edge Winery Event Center located in New Orleans Square. Current candidates include Christi Gillespie, Shelley Gwartney, Timothy Brooks, and Bill Bickerstaff. Furthermore, among the candidates participating in this debate is Christi Gillespie, whose platform centers on prioritizing public safety and fostering positive community engagement.

After speaking with Christi Gillespie, the current Broken Arrow City Councilor and Vice Mayor, about her goals if elected to represent the area, she indicated that public safety was a top priority. Gillespie stated that, after daily discussions with constituents, public safety consistently emerges as the number one issue. When asked about the constituents' concerns, the Vice Mayor indicated that the first step would be to enable law enforcement to enforce the existing laws. This includes addressing illegal immigration, fentanyl poisoning, mental health, and the drug epidemic. Additionally, the Vice Mayor emphasized the importance of working with the Lieutenant Governor (currently held by Matt Pinnell) to maintain positive messaging and engage with the public to address any questions or concerns they may have. Gillespie has served this district for two terms as a City Councilor and is currently serving her first term as Vice Mayor. The debate with all candidates will be held on May 13th, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Water's Edge Winery Event Center, located at 3300 S. Elm Place, Broken Arrow, OK 74012. The format will include opening and closing statements, as well as questions asked by residents and moderators from the district. There won't be food available, so it is advised to eat before attending. However, drinks will be available for purchase, including non-alcoholic options and local beer and wine from some of the district's best establishments.
