The book tells the story of a young boy who grew up in a small town located on the German border in Southern Holland. He was there when he witnessed the start of World War II as the invading German forces and four years later the horror of the defeated Germans army by the Allied Forces. After some troublesome young years, working in the coal mines, (he was caved in for Several days) and the loss of his best friends along the way, an old oak tree changed his life forever
He encountered an unconscious American pilot laying under his parachute. Unable to leave him, injured and vulnerable, he brought him to a convent where they would help him. When later he met the American soldiers, he decided that he would go to America when he grows up.

“The Scarred Oak” is definitely the one book to read for readers who are interested in the personal reflections of WWII. The book is based on the author's childhood experience when the. German. Offensive unexpectedly crossed the Dutch border in July 1940. It described in great detail what it was like to live during these times and how people dealt with the challenges that arose, such as lack of food, financial stability, and implementation opportunities.

What's more, it teaches readers how to overcome limitations, appreciate life no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, and possess strength and insight beyond expectation. There is so much to learn from reading this thought-provoking book that it can be used as a reference for research, a topic for a term paper, or reading material for students studying WWII from a personal perspective.

The book is an inspiring and moving piece with 5-star reviews from Amazon customers. Interested? Get a copy of “The Scarred Oak” by William T. Walraven on Amazon and visit the Tucson Festival of Books.
