Montclair, NJ-based Rock Artist Compounds Humor with Heartfelt Emotion in New Effort
Montclair, New Jersey Jan 27, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - All things in life, even the best things, come with side effects - warnings and disclaimers we might want to read carefully - and then maybe take the risk anyway.
Since 2015 when singer/songwriter Jason Didner donated a kidney to his wife and songwriting partner Amy, the pair have lived with many unforeseen consequences arising from every medical miracle they've encountered along the way. They've felt the rapid twists of emotional roller coasters. The couple endured the slow burn of repeatedly entering medical information into online forms, only to be handed a clipboard to provide that information again. They've seen major changes in mood and appetite induced by seemingly minor changes in medicine. The stresses of these situation have cast doubts on Jason's artistic pursuits and the characters and egos that can pop up in the creative world.
Jason and Amy have written new songs and called upon a few existing ones to tell this sweeping story and conclude along the way that "you can live with the side effects of love," to quote the title track. Jason's mother Linda co-wrote the lyrics to the album's closing track, which recounts a moment of leaving anger and resentment behind when the moment called for it.
Jason's embrace of improving home recording technology has enabled his prolific musical output over the past two years. So has his development of his new "pandemic skill:" drumming, which completed his multi-instrumental recording abilities. In 2022, this artist launched two albums, each showcasing a different side of his musical personality. First came "Salt and Sand: Rock Songs to Heal the Mind," an earnest examination of what it takes to create and maintain mental health through a stressful period. Months later, Jason compiled a career's worth of his humorous songs, combining existing recordings with new ones on "It's a Jersey Thing."
"Side Effects" comes as a compound of the humorous and the heartfelt Jason had immersed himself in through the past year of music. Often both elements appear in the same song, including the title track. This artist's holistic approach brings a cocktail of diverse musical styles and influences into the mix, all in service of the story. You'll hear powerpop reminiscent of late 80s U2, Chicago blues, hard rock in the spirit of Van Halen, a piano-driven ballad, An E Street inspired romp and a punk rock ripper.
"I hope the listener will laugh knowingly," Jason offers, "reflect a bit and come out appreciating their life and their loves, side effects and all." Following that prescription may well prove worth the risk.
The album, Jason's fourth solo collection, is avalable for pre-order on Bandcamp now. and all streaming platforms and on CD on February 3, 2023. You can pre-save it on Spotify now.
Jason's album launch concert will take place at Silver Stream Studio at 594 Valley Road in Upper Montclair on Saturday, February 4 at 7:30 PM. Admission is free; attendees can compensate Jason for his performance and album on a "pay-what-you-want" basis. RSVPs are highly encouraged. You can RSVP at jasondidner.com.
